GSHA members are the premier health care professionals who deliver speech pathology and audiology treatment to clients throught the life cycle and in all kinds of settings. GSHA was able to add additional funds to the state budget for a newborn infant screening system throughout the state in 2000, and work continues in this area today. Efforts to recognize the special standing of the school-based SLP and Audiologist are ongoing, but this goal is tempered due to serious budget restraints the State currently is facing. Additionally, GSHA continues to advocate for improved services to be delivered by these professionals to Medicaid clients. Reimbursement is also an issue, as well as understanding and improving the kind of bureaucracy which seems to be a part of health care today.
