The Georgia Hospice and Palliative Care Organization ("GHPCO") was founded in 1979 to encourage and promote, throughout the State of Georgia, the availability of high quality, compassionate care for the terminally ill and their families. GHPCO is a professional membership and educational organization. Its members are required to hold a state license. GHPCO assists, educates, and coordinates communication between hospice members. As the need for hospice care grows, GHO stresses operational ethics and quality care. Any funds received by GHPCO are used to provide training for its member hospices in order to ensure a high caliber level of care to those individuals in need of hospice services, as well as to their families. Any person diagnosed by his/her physician with an instage illness and having six months of life expectancy is eligible for hospice care with a doctor's referral.
